10Bet

There are stacks of bookmakers available that have numbers in their name, and so it can all get a little confusing for punters when sorting the wheat from the chaff.

10Bet are one of the most well-established of that group, having entered the market way back in 2003. They operate in more than 90 countries, and the undoubted ‘unique selling point’ of their service is the high limits they allow their players to take advantage of: you can get up to £100,000 on any single event should you wish!

Priding themselves on rapid payouts and the depth of their in-play markets, 10Bet also offer a raft of potentially lucrative promotions so if you are an in-play specialist then 10Bet will be right up your street.

32Red

It is fair to say that 32Red is a brand that focuses primarily on their online casino product, but to dismiss their sports betting brand out of hand would be foolish.

In July 2017 they were acquired by the Kindred Group, which owns Unibet and the now sadly-deceased Stan James among many other betting brands. That has seen a shift in focus towards sports, and it’s no surprise to see them sponsoring a number of high profile horse races and even football clubs.

They don’t offer the widest range of sports and markets, so if you prefer more niche pursuits then 32Red might not be for you. But they cover the main sports in great detail; particularly in-play, where hundreds of markets are open day and night.

It would also be fair to say that sports punters aren’t exactly treated like royalty when it comes to promotions and bonuses with 32Red, but they certainly generous when it comes to their casino players. So if you are a sports bettor who occasionally likes to spin the roulette wheel or try your hand at the blackjack table, 32Red might just be for you.

888

The 888 brand is celebrating a decade in the sports betting industry after their establishment back in March 2008. Headquartered in Gibraltar, 888sport focus primarily on European sporting action and have partnered with a number of sporting events and teams in the UK to expand their identity in this market.

The focus of 888 seems to be horse racing, with the sport getting its own heading on the website’s homepage alongside an A-Z of sports and live betting opportunities. Punters can live stream UK and Irish horse racing and benefit from Best Odds Guaranteed and various seasonal promotions.

There is plenty more for other punters to enjoy outside of the nags too, with all major sports covered in depth and a number of promotions targeted specifically at those who prefer a flutter on the football.

The brand has a user-friendly app to download, and this utilises a ‘dual wallet’ system across sports and casino, so you can use your bankroll as you wish!

Betfair

Betfair has four million customers worldwide and makes more than £50 million in the average week, which is nice work if you can get it!

The company was founded in June 2000 as an exchange, a platform where punters bet and lay bets against one another at, typically, more generous odds that have not had the bookies’ usual over-round added to them.

The Betfair Exchange remains the largest to this day, and the success of that brand convinced Betfair to open their own sportsbook in 2012. Continued growth led to a merger with Paddy Power in February 2016, although the brand still operates out of the UK and Ireland to this day.

The sportsbook site and app aren’t the best-looking or most user-friendly around, but with such great prices – including the consistently best Premier League odds, confirmed, since January 2017 – who cares!?

Betfred

Betfred is one of the oldest existing betting firms in the UK, with its first branch opened in Salford back in 1967 (then known as ‘Done Bookmakers’) by its founders Fred and Peter Done. Remarkably, the brothers raised the capital to start the firm from a bet on England to win the World Cup in 1966!

They were one of the first bookmakers to erroneously pay out early on a long-term bet: paying out on Manchester United to win the Premier League title in 1998 only to see Arsenal pip the Red Devils by a single point.

Betfred was born in 2004 to coincide with a move online, and they remain a popular destination for punters to this day.

And they are well respected in horse racing circles too, thanks to their extensive offers, numerous betting shops on UK and Irish courses and their previous ownership of the Tote.

BetVictor

The name Victor Chandler, and that of his father William, are synonymous with the betting industry in the UK, and Victor’s influence lives on to this day in BetVictor, the rebranded firm that his father started in the 1930s.

These days they focus chiefly on their online betting site, and all told they turnover in excess of £1 billion per year and service 500,000 customers in 160 countries!

BetVictor offers comprehensive betting options across pre-event and in-play markets, with all key sports covered in great detail.

Where the brand really makes their money is with their offers, which are unique and certainly amongst the most rewarding in the industry. These change regularly so check the BetVictor site for details of the current promos.

BoyleSports

This is a pre-eminent bookmaker that is the second largest in Ireland behind Paddy Power. Established in 1989, they operate more than 200 betting shops across the country as well as a popular website that incorporates sports, casino and more.

There isn’t anything that the brand stands out for, although if you do enjoy a flutter on the Gaelic sports or Irish horse racing and greyhounds you will be hard pressed to find a more comprehensive selection of events and odds.

They offer a number of promotions too including some unique ideas which are well worth checking out if you're looking for something a bit different.

Coral

The good news keeps on coming for Coral, who merged with Ladbrokes in 2017 to create a high street betting behemoth with more than 3,500 shops in the UK alone.

And in April 2018 they announced another acquisition; this time they were the ones being purchased by the GVC Holdings Group, who have established themselves as a major player in online betting around the world.

So Coral customers (and shareholders) are certainly looking at a bright future….

But what do they offer the humble punter? Their website is a rather harsh-on-the-eye affair but it contains a comprehensive masterclass in market depth, with most sports covered in great detail. Their odds are fairly standard, but such is their commitment to price boosts that most punters will find something to sink their teeth into each and every day.

Coral are the forefathers of ‘hybrid betting’ too via their Connect service. Basically, Connect cardholders can bet online and collect their winnings, in cash, from their local betting shop, and deposit cash into their online account.

Ladbrokes

It has been a tumultuous few years for Ladbrokes, who were first established in the early 1900s. In 2016 they purchased the Gala Coral Group – cementing their high street presence, and in 2018 they were acquired by the online specialist GVC Holdings.

Famous these days for their TV advertisements featuring the one and only Chris Kamara, Ladbrokes are the all-round betting specialist who focus equally on their high street and online operations, and on pre-event and in-play markets. They also operate a betting exchange too, having purchased Betdaq in February 2013.

The standout feature of Ladbrokes is their enhanced offers, which have become an integral part of their offering. You’ll regularly find odds boosts on the site, with a particular focus on televised football and horse racing.

Paddy Power

One of the best known bookmakers in the land, the cheeky chappies at Paddy Power have built an international reputation based upon their near-the-knuckle PR campaigns and headline-making early payouts as much as anything else.

They’ve come a long way since owning 40 shops in Ireland back in the late 1980s. Today they are a multi-national brand, and having merged with Betfair they now serve hundreds of thousands of punters across the globe.

One of their standout features is their Money Back Specials. These typically reveal themselves to be free bets by all accounts, e.g. money back if Everton beat Liverpool etc. These are particularly handy at big horse racing meetings. Check the Paddy Power site to see any current offers.

Sport Nation

Prepare for a history lesson: Bet On Brazil was a betting firm founded to coincide with the European Championships in 2016, with former Scotland international and now radio motormouth Alan Brazil as ‘brand ambassador’.

In the summer of 2017 they underwent a rebrand, and now they are known as SportNation. Brazil was initially still involved, writing opinion pieces and betting tips for the firm, but the new name was designed to attract a wider customer base than just football punters familiar with Brazil’s work.

Today they offer a comprehensive sportsbook product, offering odds and markets on football, horse racing, tennis, rugby, cricket, golf, American sports and much more.

Unibet

Unibet is part of the Kindred Group, a betting behemoth that also includes 32Red, Maria Casino and the artist formerly known as Stan James.

And it is Unibet, the sponsor and betting partner of many a football team, which is their focus as far as sports betting is concerned.

There is a focus on the live side of betting here, with more than 40,000 in-play events available each year and live streaming available across football, horse racing, tennis and more courtesy of Unibet TV.

They offer a diverse range of promotions too, and some of these are unique to Unibet.
